Barry Muth

In  2003, ADI's products were put to the ultimate test... Mount Everest base camp! Barry Muth, a West Point graduate with eighteen years in the Army, sustained a spinal cord injury in 1999 while deployed in Saudi Arabia.

Barry, a C5-C6 quadriplegic, has worked with a variety of organizations and tries to get the word out that, "I'm no different...". What better way to make this point than to climb to Mount Everest base camp. Pushing when he could and being carried in his chair at other times, Barry and his team traveled 30 linear miles to an altitude of 17,600 feet during the 21 day trek. Barry completed the arduous trip to Mount Everest base camp using ADI's products .

Under such strenuous conditions, Barry's equipment had to keep up with him. Using our Carbon Fiber Seating System in conjunction with Push and Transfer Gloves and ADI's patented Disc Brake System, Barry is able to keep the weight of his chair to a minimum while maintaining the highest performance standards. Since he began using Carbon Fiber Seating, Barry has noticed that he can stay in his chair longer and that his posture is more aligned. After all, he does spend 16-18 hours per day in his chair.

Barry is motivated by seeing people with disabilities doing "the impossible." He also wants to encourage and motivate both disabled and able bodied people to realize that anything can be accomplished if they put their mind and body to it.
